Driver Arrested after Suspected DUI Crash on Esplanade and San Jacinto Avenues

 
San Jacinto, CA (December 18, 2020) – A suspected DUI crash on Esplanade and San Jacinto Avenues left a bicyclist injured on early Thursday.
 
The incident happened on December 17 at about 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of Esplanade and San Jacinto Avenues.
 
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the bicyclist was at the intersection when a vehicle suddenly struck him.
 
Sgt. Anthony Pelato said that the deputies arrived at the scene and found the victim trapped in the involved vehicle. Firefighters extricated the bicyclist then, the medics transported him to a trauma center afterward.
 
The victim has not been identified however, Pelato reported that he suffered major injuries to both legs due to the extent of the collision. Moreover, the victim was in a serious but stable condition.

Pending Investigation on Suspected DUI Crash in San Jacinto

 
The investigators confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Deputies later booked him to the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
 
Furthermore, the incident led to the temporary closure of the intersection as the investigation continues.
