City Employee Involved in 17th Street Fatal Collision
Long Beach, CA (February 19, 2022) – Yesterday, a bicyclist sustained fatal injuries in a 17th Street collision.
It was about 7:40 a.m. when the incident happened near an industrial zone on Oregon Avenue.
A Long Beach city employee was driving a southbound Ford F250 truck from the city’s public maintenance yard. The employee was going to an assignment when the city-owned pickup truck hit the bicyclist.
Unfortunately, the unidentified bicyclist died at the accident scene.
Reports said the victim ran a stop sign in the middle of the crossing.
The 59-year-old city employee remained at the scene and cooperated wit the investigation.
Moreover, officers do not consider distracted driving, impaired driving or speed as factor in the crash.
Also, another city employee on a different assignment witnessed the collision stayed at the scene.
