Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted by Authorities after Death of 67-Year-Old Woman
LINCOLN HEIGHTS, CA (April 5, 2018) – The search continues for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run collision that took the life of a woman on Sunday night.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision happened around 9:50 PM near the North Broadway and Workman Street intersection.
The woman was sorting the recyclables when she was hit and seriously injured by an SUV driver who fled from the scene. Emergency personnel rushed the woman to a local hospital in critical condition. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
A family friend and neighbor, Ashley Lee, identified the woman as 67-year-old Bi Xu Chen. Lee described Chen as “an extremely hardworking woman, wife, mother, and grandmother” in a Facebook post. As a witness, Lee was also able to provide the information that the SUV was red or black in color. Investigators were able to find the vehicle that hit the victim, but the driver was nowhere to be found.
With the help of surveillance camera videos, authorities now have some solid leads on the driver. However, they are still encouraging anyone who has information about the crash to cooperate with them by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222- 8477.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Chen’s family with the funeral expenses.
