One Killed and Two Injured in Helicopter Accident in Eastern Washington

 
POMEROY, WA (January 27, 2018) – 19-year-old Benjamin M. Poirier from Berthoud, Colorado died after a helicopter crashed about 100 miles south of Spokane on Saturday.
 
Two other men on board 33-year-old Blake Malo from Clarkston, Washington (pilot) and 30-year-old Garrett Bradshaw of Eagle Point, Oregon (passenger). The three men were on the first day of deer capture efforts in the Blue Mountains, part of a research project on the movement and survival of animals.
 
The team of men were employed by Hells Canyon Helicopters, and flying under a contract with the State Fish and Wildlife Department to help with mule deer surveying. They were working with biologists on the ground to capture and attach radio collars to mule deer does.
 
Malo and Bradshaw were taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston for injuries sustained in the crash. The condition of the pilot and the second passenger has not yet been released to the public.
 
Authorities continue their investigation on the fatal helicopter accident. No other information has been provided at this time.
