Benjamin Dean Dead, Wife Injured After Driver Allegedly Runs Red Light at O’Farrell and Taylor Streets

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (July 22, 2019) – A Clovis man perished after a driver struck a pair of pedestrians Sunday afternoon at O’Farrell and Taylor streets.

According to news reports, the event turned fatal around 2:30 p.m. near Union Square.

Reports say 39-year-old Benjamin Dean and his unidentified wife were in San Francisco vacationing for their anniversary; however, as the couple began crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, a Tesla blew through a red light and struck them.

Based on video surveillance, the Tesla ran a red light and collided with a MINI Cooper, which sent the Tesla hitting the couple. Subsequently, the Tesla struck an unattended parked vehicle before landing on top of the sidewalk.

Shortly after, police arrested a woman whose name has yet to be released. The 22-year-old faces charges of running a red light and involuntary manslaughter.

As far as the MINI Cooper driver, he or she did not report any injuries. Dean, however, died in the crash and his wife sustained critical injuries.
