52-Year-Old Orangevale Woman Fatally Injured in Accident near Highway 16

WILLIAMS, CA (June 17, 2018) – A woman lost her life Sunday afternoon and three others, including a juvenile, were injured after a vehicle collided head-on with a van near the Wilbur Springs Cal Fire Station. The deceased victim was identified as 52-year-old Barbara Newton of Orangevale.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place shortly before 12:30 PM at the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 16.

A 2016 Ford Fusion, driven by Newton, was heading eastbound on Highway 20 when it suddenly drifted to the right shoulder. After hitting a guardrail, she lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a westbound 2006 Honda Odey.

The impact of the collision caused Newton’s vehicle to overturn within the westbound lanes. She sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the Honda, 44-year-old Abel Martir, and two of his four passengers, 43-year-old Monica Martir and an unnamed 15-year-old girl, sustained injuries ranging from moderate to major.

Authorities are still trying to determine what might have caused Newton to suddenly lost control of her vehicle and what factors contributed to the deadly collision.

No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.

Our thoughts are with the bereaved loved ones of Barbara Newton. May she rest in peace.
