Ashley Gregorio and Delila Rangel Seriously Hurt, Jazmin Torres Injured and Franklin Windom Detained Following Los Angeles Collision
LOS ANGELES, CA (December 17, 2018) – Two 9-year-old girls are in a coma after a street racing crash at West Florence Avenue and South Hoover Street Friday night critically injured the juveniles along with two others.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened around 9:00 p.m. at the intersection.
News reports say that 24-year-old Jazmin Torres was attempting a left-hand turn from West Florence Avenue onto South Hoover Street when her vehicle was struck by a street racing eastbound Chevrolet Camaro that was racing a black Ford Mustang.
The Los Angeles firefighters arrived on scene and freed Torres and her 9-year-old daughter, Ashley Gregorio, and her daughter’s 9-year-old best friend, Delila Rangel. Torres was hospitalized with severe injuries and the two 9-year-old girls were put into medically induced comas at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Rangel reportedly suffered a serious brain injury, according to her mother, Lety Garcia.
Police say the Camaro driver, identified as 38-year-old Franklin Windom, also suffered major injuries and will be facing reckless driving and street racing charges. The Mustang driver, who officers say was well-aware of the crash, however, fled the scene and is being sought by the department. The car was said to have black rims, a black rear wing spoiler and perhaps a tan or light-colored interior.
The city of Los Angeles is offering a standing reward of up to $25,000 for any information that will lead officials to the conviction of the driver who fled the scene. Those with insight into this incident is urged to call the Los Angeles police at 877-527-3247.
