55-Year-Old Auburn Man Fatally Injured in a Three-Car Crash on Highway 49
AUBURN, CA (March 20, 2018) – A three-car collision on Highway 49 killed a man, early Tuesday morning. The victim was identified as 55-year-old Arthur Blankenship from Auburn.
A 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by Blankenship, was traveling east on Joeger Road approaching Highway 49, around 5:40 AM. Meanwhile, a 2008 Ford F-150 driven by 43-year-old Kevin Jones, and a 2017 Toyota Rav4 driven by an unnamed 16-year-old girl, were traveling south in different lanes on Highway 49. Both vehicles were approaching Joeger Road.
The Grand Marquis entered the intersection, where the Ford struck its driver’s side. The Toyota then rear-ended the Ford. Both the Marquis and the Ford ended up blocking lanes on Highway 49, which caused major slowdowns and traffic diversions for about two hours.
Blankenship was declared dead at the scene from the impact of the collision. Jones received minor injuries and the girl was unharmed. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by authorities at the moment.
