2 Injured in Rock Island Multi-Vehicle Crash
Douglas County, WA (January 21, 2025) – Araceli Olaldemedina, 50, from Quincy, was injured following a DUI crash on State Route 28 Sunday.
The multi-vehicle crash happened around 5:10 p.m. in Rock Island.
Officers said 53-year-old Karl Sundquist from Moses Lake crossed from the westbound to the eastbound lanes and crashed head-on with a Ford Explorer.
The collision also impacted a Dodge Ram before it stopped in a ditch on the westbound shoulder.
Meanwhile, another vehicle, a Ford Expedition, swerved to avoid Sundquist but still sustained damage.
Troopers said the Ford Explorer was pushed into an eastbound ditch, the Dodge Ram stopped in the westbound lane, and the Ford Expedition rested on the eastbound shoulder with significant damage.
Araceli Olaldemedina, a passenger in the Ford Explorer, and Karl Sundquist sustained injuries. They were both taken to Central Washington Hospital.
Several others from the collision were transported to be evaluated.
WSP officers said Sundquist was intoxicated during the collision and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Don’t Drink and Drive
Always remember to plan for a sober driver to take you home. If you’re the designated driver, it’s important to take the role seriously and don’t consume alcohol or use other drugs.
Just one drink before driving can put you and others in danger because alcohol impairs thinking, reasoning, and muscle coordination. Impaired driving poses a serious threat to road safety. It increases the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, reaction time, and coordination, making it difficult for drivers to safely operate a vehicle. By choosing not to drink and drive, you are taking an important step towards protecting yourself and others on the road.
