18-Month-Old Child Run Over by SUV in a Driveway on Pasco Road

APPLE VALLEY, CA (February 20, 2018) – An 18-month-old child who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Pasco Road on Tuesday afternoon.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Apple Valley Station deputies received a report about of a child being run over at the 11900 block of Pasco Road. They arrived at the scene and found the child lying in the front yard of a home.

According to sheriff’s officials, CPR was continuously performed on the boy by emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District. An ambulance from American Medical Response arrived to transport the child to a local hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation revealed that extended family had returned to the residence after a trip with two adults and their respective children in a large SUV. According to authorities, the SUV stopped in the driveway so the driver could exit and open the driveway gate. Incidentally, the mother of the 18-month-old removed him and his car seat from the vehicle at that time.

The victim was standing near the vehicle when the driver got back into the SUV. The driver was unaware that the boy walked into the driveway below driver’s line of sight. The front bumper of the SUV hit the victim, knocking him down and continuing forward.

Deputies confirmed that alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident. Neither the victim’s nor the driver’s identity is being released pending family notification. The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Major Accident Investigation Team is still conducting an investigation at this time.
