24-Year-Old Zocalo Bartender Fatally Injured in T-Bone Accident on Evergreen Street

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (May 11, 2018) – A beloved Zocalo bartender was killed in a DUI collision at the intersection of El Camino Avenue and Evergreen Street, early Saturday morning. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Antonio Navarette of Sacramento.
 
Navarette had locked up after his evening shift at Zocalo, a restaurant on Howe Avenue, when he headed home in his car. He was driving through the El Camino-Evergreen intersection around 12:30 AM, about four miles from his place of work, when t-boned by another vehicle.
 
The Sacramento Police and Fire Departments arrived at the scene to find the young man unconcious and trapped in the driver’s side. He was pronounced dead shortly after. The other driver, 38-year-old Xoury Soukouang, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
 
Soukouang was arrested on suspicious on felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter, and booked into the Sacramento County Jail with a $350,000 bond. In 2009, he was arrested on suspicion of assault with deadly weapon and corporal injury to spouse, but did not do any jail time.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal accident. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
 
A GoFundMe page was made to help Navarette’s family in this difficult time. In memory of Antonio and his toothy grin, all three locations of Zocalo will be serving a flavored margarita called “La Sonrisa,” Spanish for smile.
