Angel Rivera-Montelongo of Nacogdoches Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 21 [Nacogdoches, TX]

Nacogdoches, TX (November 30, 2024) – Angel Rivera-Montelongo, 20, of Nacogdoches, and Riley Copeland, 19, of Chireno, were killed in a head-on crash on Highway 21 Tuesday evening.

The three-vehicle crash happened around 6 p.m. in Melrose.

Investigators said Riley Copeland, was driving an eastbound 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 while Rivera-Montelongo was driving a westbound 2006 Ford F-350.

At the same time, Jose Galvez, 61, also of Nacogdoches, was driving a westbound 2012 Dodge Ram in front of Rivera-Montelongo.

Troopers said Copeland crossed into the westbound lane and sideswiped Galvez’s vehicle. Afterward, Copeland’s vehicle then struck Rivera-Montelongo head-on.

Angel Rivera-Montelongo and Riley Copeland were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Jose Galvez was not injured.

The Texas Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
