Andy Belletti Suffers Broken Leg After Crash at Thurston Middle School Crossing Street in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach, CA (December 13, 2023) – On Monday, 66-year-old Andy Belletti sustained injuries in a crash at Thurston Middle School crossing street.

Reportedly, Andy, a crossing guard at Thurston Middle School in Laguna Beach, has been in the hospital for two days.

His wife said he suffered a broken leg when an SUV driver collided with him shortly after he assisted a group of children in crossing the street.

Following the incident, Andy Belletti was swiftly taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Irvine, where he remains for the injuries sustained in the crash. 

He is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, his recovery process is ongoing.

The Laguna Beach community has united to support Andy. The students also have been sending him videos and get-well cards as they anticipate the return of their beloved crossing guard.

“We have several videos from the students to us, when my husband was watching them today — just tears rolling down his face,” Gerri Belletti said. 

“Hi guys, this is Andy your crossing guard, I just want to take a moment and express my love and thanks and gratitude to all of you in the community,” he said. “To the kids, thank you so much. You’ve given me back so much more than I’ve ever given back to you and I can never express to you how much I appreciate it.”

So far, families and community supporters have raised more than $10,000 for Belletti’s recovery.
