Two Drivers Injured in Two-Vehicle Accident near Potter Valley Road

MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (May 2, 2018) – A collision on Highway 20 between a vehicle and a freight truck injured two drivers and temporarily closed affected areas, late Wednesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at around 11:45 AM, just west of Potter Valley Road. A 2015 Toyota Prius, driven by 31-year-old Andrew Guridi of Rohnert Park, was heading west on Highway 20 at an unknown speed. At the same time, a 2010 white truck, driven by 54-year-old Patrick Lorenzi of Stockton, was traveling east at about 50 to 55 mph.

Guridi made an unsafe turn and suddenly entered the eastbound lane, directly in the path of the truck. This resulted in the Prius’ front side colliding with the truck’s front left side. Both vehicles received major damage, with the Prius coming to rest blocking the oncoming traffic from the westbound lane of the highway. Lorenzi’s truck left the highway and ended up 15 to 20 feet down the nearby embankment.

Reports stated that Guridi sustained major injuries, such as bone fracture in the lower right leg and lip lacerations, and was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Lorenzi suffered from minor injuries, primarily a bump on his forehead. There is no update on their current medical condition.

Affected areas of the highway were shut down for several hours, and traffic control was needed to minimize delays caused by the closure. Lanes were completely reopened around 7:30 PM the same day.

When driving, it is important to keep your distance from the vehicles ahead of you, especially when traveling at high speeds on the highway. Always pay attention to your surroundings for fellow motorcyclists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and other cars that are sharing the road. By obeying traffic rules and driving defensively, dangerous accidents can be prevented.
