3-Year-Old Boy Injured in Merced Auto Accident on Golden State Boulevard and Griffith Road

 
MERCED, CA (July 20, 2021) – Saturday night, a DUI crash on Golden State Boulevard and Griffith Road led to the arrest of Andres Castaneda.
 
The incident happened at 8:39 p.m. on Southbound Golden State Boulevard, north of Griffith Road.
 
According to the authorities, a 26-year-old Andres Castaneda from Planada drove a black Honda Accord south on Golden State Boulevard. As he traveled at a high rate of speed, he didn’t slow down and hit the rear of a 2007 silver Chevrolet Silverado.
 
The CHP confirmed that the truck driver, front passenger, and a 1-year-old girl sustained minor injuries. They didn’t require hospitalization and will seek their own aid. Meanwhile, a 3-year-old boy suffered facial lacerations and head injuries. Thus, responders airlifted the victim to Madera Children’s Hospital.
 
Also, the CHP said that both children were properly restrained.
 
Castaneda suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
 
The authorities suspect Andres Castaneda of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
 
However, due to his severe injuries, the police released Castaneda to the care of Memorial Medical Center.
 
The authorities will file charges of felony DUI. Also, the crash remains under active investigation.
