Ameena Hayat Killed, 2 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 880 Freeway [San Leandro, CA]

2 Hospitalized, Ameena Hayat Dead in San Leandro Accident on Highway 880

 
SAN LEANDRO, CA (February 24, 2021) – Tuesday morning, Ameena Hayat, 22, died in a multi-vehicle crash on the 880 Freeway and Washington Avenue.
 
The authorities responded to the crash scene at about 9:48 a.m. The incident fatal pileup accident occurred on the southbound lanes of the 880 Freeway, south of Washington Avenue.
 
However, when the officers arrived, they located nine vehicles, including an overturned van stopped within multiple lanes.
 
According to reports, a sport-utility vehicle struck a white Honda Civic. The sport utility vehicle then ended up atop the Honda’s rear.
 
The impact left the Honda’s female driver, Ms. Hayat, with fatal injuries.
 
Meanwhile, responders took a Honda passenger for treatment of major injuries. Also, a person in another vehicle sustained a minor injury. At this time, the conditions of those patients remain undisclosed.
 
At 10:23 a.m., the authorities requested for the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.
 
Moreover, the CHP issued a SigAlert at 10:11 a.m. which closed three left-hand southbound lanes. By 12:55 p.m., the alert has been lifted.
 
At this time, the authorities suspect that speed played a role in the Interstate 880 crash. They urge anyone with information about the crash to contact the CHP’s Hayward office at 510-489-1500.
