Teen in Medically Induced Coma when She Falls Out of SUV in Modesto
MODESTO, CA (September 14, 2019) – A teen was seriously hurt after she fell out of the SUV she was driving late Saturday evening in Modesto.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Scenic Drive just west of Eastridge Drive.
According to police, a 19-year-old Amber Wilkins was driving her 2019 Jeep Wrangler westbound, when she somehow fell out of the car, which had its roof and doors off. The fall led to one of the Jeep’s wheels running over her torso and upper thigh.
The driverless Jeep continued rolling down the roadway until the passengers were able to bring it to a stop. The four passengers were unharmed.
Wilkins suffered major injuries, including a lacerated liver, seven broken facial bones, a bruised lung, broken skull and broken arm. She was hospitalized in critical condition and is in medically induced coma.
Traffic Unit officers are investigating how Wilkins fell out. They did not rule out alcohol as a factor in the incident.
The Modesto Police Department has asked anyone with information about the incident to call investigator Raduechel at 209-572-9592.
