17-Year-Old Boy Arrested after Crash on Lohman Avenue in Las Cruces

El Paso, TX (February 22, 2023) – On Tuesday, 21-year-old Amanda Jean Murillo Gallegos died, and another woman sustained injuries in a crash on Lohman Avenue.

The fatal two-vehicle crash in El Paso happened on February 21.

Police said the 17-year-old boy was driving a Dodge Ram eastbound on Lohman Ave. at a high rate of speed, racing a vehicle. He then ran a red light and struck a Hyundai with the two victims inside.

EMS rushed the Hyundai passenger, Gallegos, to the hospital where she later died.

Moreover, the Hyundai driver, a 27-year-old woman also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the 17-year-old fled the scene on foot but turned himself in to police shortly after the crash.

Currently, the suspect faces charges of vehicular homicide, two counts of knowingly leaving the scene of a crash that caused great bodily harm or death, racing on streets, and a red-light violation.

He is booked into the juvenile section of the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
