40-Year-old Man Fatally Injured in Accident at Metate Lane
POWAY, CA (April 9, 2018) – A multiple-car accident that took place on Community Road, left one dead and several injured late Monday afternoon.
The crash occurred at around 4:30 PM on Community Road at Metate Lane, just south of Poway Road. The victim was identified on Thursday as 40-year-old Aluctec Galindo.
According to sheriff’s officials, the male motorist was driving south on Community when his Kia Optima sideswiped a Honda sedan. Galindo then swerved to the left and over the center median, into oncoming traffic. The Kia was then hit by a northbound red pickup, before being struck by a white Chevrolet Silverado.
Police officials and emergency personnel arrived to the crash site and pronounced Galindo dead at the scene. Several other drivers were injured in the collision, and at least one was taken to the hospital for treatment. Their identities and conditions have not yet been disclosed.
Officials from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (SDSO) stated that Galindo had speeding, according to preliminary investigation. Authorities shut down lanes of Community between Metate and Civic Center Drive after the series of collisions. The SDSO continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident; it is unclear whether or not drugs and alcohol were contributing factors.
