21-Year-Old Alfredo Verganza-Lucas Killed in Accident on 91 Freeway [Riverside, CA]

Riverside, CA (October 1, 2024) – 21-year-old Riverside resident Alfredo Verganza-Lucas was killed in an accident on 91 Freeway early Sunday morning.

It was about 3:15 a.m. when the fatal crash happened on the eastbound 91 Freeway west of Adams Street.

CHP Riverside officers said a Jeep Patriot and Kia Sportage were involved in a collision that resulted in minor injuries. According to them, the Jeep became disabled and its occupants exited the vehicle.

During that time, an eastbound commercial tractor-trailer took evasive action to avoid the Jeep but lost control. The tractor traveled over the right concrete wall and overturned.

As a result, the truck driver suffered a minor injury.

At the same time, an eastbound Toyota Camry behind the commercial tractor-trailer also took evasive action to avoid the Jeep. However, the Toyota struck the Jeep and Alfredo Verganza-Lucas, who was a passenger in the Jeep.

Unfortunately, Alfredo Verganza-Lucas was killed in the accident.

The Jeep was then pushed into the path of another passenger standing directly in front of the Jeep. The rescuers rushed the passenger to an area hospital with major injuries.

Investigating officers said the Toyota driver was not hurt and was not under the influence during the collision. 

The authorities later arrested the Jeep and Kia drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.
