64-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Whittier Boulevard near 605 Freeway
WHITTIER, CA (December 24, 2019) – A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in an unincorporated area in Whittier.
The fatal crash happened around 6:50 p.m., on Whittier Boulevard near the on-ramp to the 605 Freeway. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the bicyclist road westbound on Whittier Boulevard when a vehicle struck him.
Arriving units rushed the victim to a hospital, where he died a short time later. Authorities later identified him as 64-year-old Alfred Tiscareno Jr. of Whittier.
The driver, 69-year-old Rameshbhai L. Bhakta of Montebello, left the scene but later called authorities to report he was involved in a crash and cooperated with the investigation. He was not arrested, the CHP said.
Alcohol or drugs were not suspected factors in the crash, which remained under investigation. Moreover, the surrounding area closed off for a brief time while crews worked on preliminary duties.
