68-Year-Old Alfred T. Diaz Dies After Crash on East Irvington Road in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (October 30, 2024) – A car struck 68-year-old Alfred T. Diaz last week on Tucson’s southeast side, leading to his death from injuries on Tuesday. 

According to a Tucson Police Department news release, Diaz was in the eastbound lane of East Irvington Road (10000 block) just before 11 p.m. when a Honda CR-V, traveling in the same lane, hit him. 

Emergency responders transported Diaz to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Honda’s driver, also 68, was uninjured, stopped at the scene, and cooperated fully with authorities. 

TPD confirmed that the driver was not impaired. 

Detectives are investigating whether Diaz was walking in the roadway or attempting to cross Irvington at the time of the incident. 

The area lacks both a crosswalk and street lighting, as noted in the release.
