The DUI accident took place before midnight at the intersection of Avenue 17.

Madera County Sheriff deputy Nathaniel Cooper was on his way to respond to a call regarding a suspected DUI driver.

Just then, the driver’s side of his patrol car was struck by a car that ran the stop sign.

Cooper exited his patrol vehicle from the passenger side door and found the suspect’s car disabled in the roadway.

Aguilar, the driver, initially refused to exit his vehicle. Similarly, he attempted to flee the scene before authorities took him to custody.

Meanwhile, police performed field sobriety tests, which confirmed Aguilar was under the influence.

Additionally, authorities found out that Aguilar was possibly involved in several other hit and run incidents within the city and county limits of Madera.
