24-Year-Old Santa Ana Man Arrested in Orangethorpe Avenue DUI Crash

Placentia, CA (January 26, 2023) On Wednesday evening, Alberto Lopez and his daughter Lucero Lopez died after a DUI crash on Orangethorpe Avenue.

Reports say that the fatal DUI crash happened at about 8:45 p.m. at the intersection with Melrose Street.

Placentia Fire Department says that a Honda Civic ran a red light and collided into a church van. Officials say that the collision involved at least six vehicles in total.

Officials pronounced Alberto and another woman dead at the scene, while 10-year-old Lucero died while she was being taken to the hospital.

Paramedics transported 8 other people who were injured in the collision. Officials say that their conditions vary from minor to critical condition Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, police arrested a 24-year-old Santa Ana man on suspicion of driving under the influence.
