Injuries Reported in Ahwatukee 5-Car Pile-Up Accident on Loop 202 and South Mountain Freeway

AHWATUKEE, AZ (May 22, 2023) – Sunday morning, an alarming wrong-way crash on Loop 202 and South Mountain Freeway injured 5 people.

The incident happened just before 5:00 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the freeway between 24th Street and 32nd Street.

According to reports, a driver ended up driving west in eastbound lanes.

Responders took five people to the hospital, including two young girls with critical injuries and three adults.

Then, first responders freed some of the victims using The Jaws of Life.

Moreover, the crash stalled traffic on the freeway.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
