18-Year-Old Killed in Crash Involving Suspected DUI on Highway 58 Near Bakersfield
Bakersfield, CA (April 29, 2025) – 18-year-old Abram Perez tragically lost his life after a suspected DUI on Highway 58.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash happened early Saturday, on Highway 58 near Bena Road.
Authorities say that around 3:43 a.m., the driver of a 2002 Mazda pickup truck reportedly crashed into the back of a slow-moving 2016 Freightliner semi-truck traveling uphill in the number two lane.
Officials say that the Mazda had been speeding between 70 to 75 mph and failed to slow down before striking the semi-truck, which was moving at 35 mph. The impact killed the passenger, identified as Perez, at the scene and left the Mazda driver with moderate injuries. Authorities transported the driver to Kern Medical Hospital.
The semi-truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. CHP suspects alcohol and/or drugs contributed to the crash.
Family members shared that Perez had recently returned to town to visit friends and was on his way home after a night out. Loved ones have created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses and honor Abram’s memory.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Abram Raymond Perez. May you find strength and peace during this difficult time.
