Robert Michael Ybarra Injured and Arrested after DUI Crash on Colorado and Sierra Madre Boulevards
PASADENA, CA (May 27, 2018) – One died and another was injured in a DUI hit-and-run accident on Colorado Boulevard, early Sunday morning. The deceased victim was identified by the coroner’s office as 24-year-old Abeme Minuta of Pasadena.
The incident occurred at around 2:00 AM when 34-year-old Robert Michael Ybarra was driving a white SUV southbound on Sierra Madre Boulevard when it crashed into the Honda that was heading east on Colorado Boulevard, driven by Minute. According to police reports, the Honda was pushed several hundred feet away from the impact of the crash. Minuta was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Ybarra allegedly fled the scene on foot but was later arrested at a residence in Alhambra at about 1:00 PM. He was initially contacted by witnesses but ran away from the scene after telling witnesses to check on the other driver, using that as a distraction.
Alhambra police assisted and held Ybarra at the residence until he was placed in custody, but his injuries initially precluded him from being put in jail. The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment and authorities believe that Ybarra was driving under the influence at the time of the crash based on their investigation.
Allegedly, Ybarra did not know the other driver had died.
Investigators are trying to figure out if either vehicle ran a red light or stop sign. Pasadena Police officials are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them by calling (626) 744-4501.
