77-Year-Old Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash at Westminster Avenue and Brookhurst Street [GARDEN GROVE, CA]

Van Drives onto Sidewalk in Garden Grove Killing 1 and Badly Injuring Another

 
GARDEN GROVE, CA (January 29, 2020) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian crash late Wednesday afternoon in Garden Grove.
 
The fatal incident happened around 5:10 p.m., near the intersection of Westminster Avenue and Brookhurst Street.
 
According to police, a Toyota Sienna veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk. It then plowed into two pedestrians, a 79-year-old man and 77-year-old woman, and ended up on top of them.
 
Several good Samaritans were able to push the van off the victims.
 
Paramedics arrived and took the victims to UCI Medical Center for further treatment. The woman, who had major trauma, was pronounced dead. The man had multiple fractures but in stable condition.
 
Police have not identified the victims, nor have they disclosed their relationship.
 
A 3-year-old boy was in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not injured. He was taken to CHOC Children’s Hospital as a precautionary measure.
 
The driver, a 45-year-old man, stayed at the scene. He was evaluated and showed no signs of impairment.
 
Police are still conducting their investigation to determine what caused the van to veer off the roadway.
