71-Year-Old Man Injured in Collision on 37th Avenue [Phoenix, AZ]

Phoenix, AZ (September 8, 2023) – At about 6 a.m. on Thursday, a 71-year-old man sustained injuries and a teen driver was arrested following a DUI collision on 37th Avenue.

Phoenix Police officers responded to the intersection with Aire Libre Avenue south of Bell. 

Officers said a teen driver struck the 71-year-old male pedestrian and crashed into other vehicles before finally hitting a nearby home in a stolen Kia Optima. 

The victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigating authorities said the three teens ran off before they arrived but they were able to apprehend them. The driver was jailed in Maricopa County Juvenile Courts Center while the two passengers were released to their parents though charges are being submitted.

Officers are still investigating.
