68-Year-Old Driver Hurt in Hit-and-Run Crash on Birch Bay-Lynden Road [Custer, WA]

Custer, WA (August 07, 2021) – On August 3rd, a 68-year-old Lynden motorist was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Birch Bay-Lynden Road.

Deputies from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO)along with personnel from the Whatcom Fire & Rescue were on the scene of the crash.

Moreover, authorities say that the crash happened around 10:45 p.m.

Furthermore, reports say that a silver Honda Accord struck a black Chevy Monte Carlo that is traveling west on the wrong lane.

Additionally, reports say that the Chevy driver escaped before authorities arrived.

Meanwhile, the driver of Honda was left trapped inside the vehicle with a broken femur.

Rescuers were on the scene to give medical help as responders apply the “jaws of life” while the patient is extricated out of the vehicle.

A land ambulance took the patient to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center and was later taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle via helicopter.

WCSO deputies along with a K-9 unit were investigating the crash scene but couldn’t find the suspect.

Finally, authorities have the driver identified and have probable cause to arrest them for hit-and-run with injury and vehicular assault.
