Thomas Wright Injured, Michael Merwin Dies in Wrong-Way Crash Highway 14 [Washougal, WA]

Washougal, WA (September 24, 2021) – On Wednesday, 64-year-old Thomas Wright of Vancouver suffered injuries, while 60-year-old Michael Merwin of Washougal, dies in a Highway 14 crash.

Officers received the crash report at about 9:45 a.m. at Washougal River Road.

Officers said a westbound 2016 Honda Accord driven by Merwin on Highway 14 entered the traffic circle the wrong way. It struck an eastbound 1998 Dodge van head-on.

Officers pronounced Merwin dead at the scene. 

The 1998 Dodge driver, Wright, suffered injuries.  Rescuers took him to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. 

Officers said Wright was listed in satisfactory condition.

They are still investigating if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
