Shane Carlyle Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash on 5 Freeway in Woodland

 
WOODLAND, CA (June 18, 2019) – A child was killed following a DUI crash Tuesday evening in Woodland.
 
The crash happened just after 9:00 p.m. on northbound 5 Freeway at County Road 22 near the Sacramento International Airport.
 
According to reports, a Nissan pickup truck was driving down the freeway. After that, a speeding BMW, driven by 34-year-old Shane Carlyle of Sacramento, came up behind the truck and crashed into it. As a result, the truck was pushed off the road and down an embankment, where it overturned and landed in a field.
 
A 5-year-old boy in the Nissan died in the crash. However, the Yolo County Coroner’s Office will release the child’s identity soon.
 
Three girls, ages 5, 7 and 10, sustained serious injuries. In addition, paramedics transported them to UC Davis Medical Center.
 
The children’s father, identified as 29-year-old Luis Figueroa, was driving the truck. In addition, taken to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries. Figueroa and his children are from Woodland.
 
One of the girls who survived the crash and the boy who died are twins, according to the CHP.
 
Shane Carlyle only sustained minor injuries. After leaving the hospital from treatment, police will charge him with suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence. In addition, police booked him into the Yolo County Jail.
 
According to the CHP, Carlyle was already on probation for DUI when the crash occurred, .
 
The incident remains under investigation.
