Los Angeles Multi-Vehicle Collision Involving Propane Truck Sends 5 People to Hospital

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 10, 2019) – Five people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on southbound 14 Freeway Tuesday at around 9:15 a.m. The collision occurred at the intersection with Crown Valley Road according to the California Highway Patrol.
 
A tanker truck carrying some 2,600 gallons of propane overturned following a collision between a camper and another car. Five people had to be extricated from the camper which also overturned in the crash.
 
Four of the injured parties were taken to hospitals according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It was reported that a mother and a child were among the four passengers who were critically injured.
 
Officials closed the 14 Freeway partially for hours in the Acton area. They established a perimeter of roughly 500 feet as crews worked to slow the leak from the truck and shut the valve. A hazardous materials team was also called to the scene, and multiple businesses in the area were evacuated, according to the Fire Department.
 
CHP issued a SigAlert at around 9:50 a.m. as they shut down all southbound lanes at Crown Valley Road, along with the on-ramp. One lane was reopened, but the other closures were put in place for about four hours. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
