2 People Injured after 5-Car DUI Crash on State Route 28 in East Wenatchee
East Wenatchee, WA (September 22, 2023) – Thursday night, two people sustained injuries in a 5-car crash on State Route 28.
The crash happened at around 7:30 p.m. near Quincy Avenue just south of East Wenatchee.
State Patrol officials said 28-year-old Aimee Lopez of Waterville was reportedly traveling eastbound on SR 28 when she attempted to pass several vehicles travelling in the same direction that were stopped for construction.
As Lopez passed on the left, she allegedly sideswiped 19-year-old Juan Ojeda-Lopez of Quincy. She then crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by a Tennessee motorist.
Aimee backed into the eastbound lane and collided with a car driven by 45-year-old Maria Mendoza-Romero of Rock Island. Maria’s vehicle overturned and collided with a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Brenda Huerta-Carrillo of Rock Island.
In total, five vehicles were involved in the wreck. Only Ojeda-Lopez and Aimee were hurt.
Aimee was allegedly intoxicated when the collision occurred.
Further investigation is ongoing.
