4 Injured in Accident on Espola Road near Range Park Road [Poway, CA]

Four Hurt after Poway Two-Vehicle Crash

 
POWAY, CA (February 28, 2019) – A traffic accident involving a van and sedan sent at least four people to the hospital on Wednesday, February 27.
 
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the van was moving northbound on Espola Road near Range Park Road when for undetermined reasons the vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a Toyota Camry just before 8:55 a.m.
 
The van’s driver was trapped in the vehicle when emergency responders arrived. Officers from the fire department cut the door open of the van and extricated the driver.
 
The driver and the van’s four other occupants were rushed to the hospital after reporting pain to medics. The van’s driver suffered a knee injury and complained that her back hurt.
 
The sedan’s driver was able to get out of the vehicle on her own and refused medical treatment.
 
The crash closed the intersection of Espola and Twin Peaks roads, which was near Twin Peaks Middle School and Tierra Bonita Elementary School.
 
SDSO officials haven’t reported that speed is the reason for Wednesday’s collision, but admitted that commuters often speed on Espola Road.
 
The department said it has tried various strategies to reduce speeding in the vicinity, including parking a cruiser on the side of the road with a mannequin inside.
