38-Year-Old Oxnard Man Dies in Moorpark Road Head-On Collision [Moorpark, CA]

Moorpark Fatal Crash Injures Jeep Cherokee Driver

Moorpark, CA (January 22, 2023) – On Friday, a 38-year-old Oxnard man died and a Jeep Cherokee driver sustained injuries in a Moorpark Road head-on collision.

The traffic collision took place at about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection with Tierra Rejada Road, just west of Highway 23.

According to CHP spokesman Officer Ryan Ayers, the Oxnard man was northbound on Moorpark Road in a white Honda Accord. At the same time, a driver of a gray Jeep Cherokee was southbound on the same road.

Suddenly, the Honda driver crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed head-on with the Jeep.

The Jeep went down an embankment while the Honda spun out in lanes and struck a southbound Chevrolet Traverse.

Unfortunately, the Honda driver died at the crash scene. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office withheld the identity of the deceased pending notification of kin.

Apparently, the Honda driver was not wearing a seat belt during the collision.

“It’s possible he would have survived this crash if he had a seat belt on, but he did not,” Ayers said.

Meanwhile, the Jeep driver had to be rescued from the vehicle down the embankment. The driver sustained a broken leg and was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of major injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Traverse Chevrolet did not sustain injuries in the accident.

The CHP is still investigating the Moorpark fatal crash.
