Hit-and-Run Driver Crashes into Mortuary Van near Downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA (July 5, 2018) – Multiple people were hospitalized late Thursday evening following a hit-and-run collision on G Street.

The crash initially took place around 11:00 PM, when a vehicle transporting a body to the morgue was struck by a woman driving a pickup truck on Massachusetts Avenue. The driver of the mortuary van called 911 after the pickup truck fled from the scene. He then proceeded to chase the hit-and-run driver into downtown San Diego.

The pickup reportedly ran a red light before crashing into a light pole and several vehicles at the intersection of G Street and 14th Street in San Diego’s East Village neighborhood. Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries as a result of the collision. Their identities and conditions were not immediately available.

Affected areas were temporarily shut down to allow crews to replace a traffic light that was damaged in the crash. The intersection was opened to the public after seven hours, at approximately 6:30 AM. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.

When driving, it is important to pay attention to your surroundings and keep an eye out for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles on the road. Also, once involved in a car accident, stay at the scene and wait for officers to arrive. By following driving laws and being careful when behind the wheel, you can keep yourself and others around you safe.
