Hugo Pineda Jr. Involved in Accident at 7400 Rogers Lane near 11th Street
HIGHLAND, CA (May 23, 2018) – Three police officers investigating a shooting were injured in a car crash on Rogers Lane, on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened about 1:15 PM when deputies arrived at the 7400 block of Rogers Lane, just south of 11th Street, to investigate a report of a shooting. The officers were just about the leave the scene when a 2018 Nissan Sentra veered and collided with a sheriff’s patrol car as the officers were standing off to the side of the road.
The Sentra then flipped, struck another patrol car, and then the officers.
The driver was identified as Hugo Pineda Jr, 20, of Highland. He was not injured in the collision. The two suspects had fled by that time and no victims could be located.
One sergeant, one deputy, and one investigator from the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office suffered major injuries in the incident. They were described as being in stable condition and are expected to recover. The investigator was taken to the Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Pineda was not licensed and he was questioned, but was not arrested or immediately cited. Police have yet to determine the proper charges. The investigation prompted a lock-down of Warm Springs Elementary. No other information was immediately disclosed.
