Police Investigate Fatal Multi-Car Crash on Interstate 40 in Coconino County

Coconino County, AZ (March 13, 2025) – A multi-car crash on Interstate 40 involving tractor-trailers killed three people, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The collision occurred around 3:25 p.m. on Interstate 40 near milepost 159, forcing authorities to close both directions of the highway for cleanup and investigation. 

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims.

Interstate 40 and other affected roads remain closed, with no estimated time for reopening. 

The closure adds to the challenges caused by heavy snowfall that has blanketed northern Arizona.

Authorities also closed State Route 89A and Interstate 17 due to hazardous winter conditions. 

Officials urge motorists to plan ahead and carry extra clothing, battery chargers, food, and water if they must travel in the snow.
