Police Investigate Stolen Vehicle Crash on Carson Street in Torrance
Torrance, CA (May 9, 2025) – Three people sustained injuries in a stolen vehicle crash on Carson Street.
A woman driving a Kia sedan that had been reported carjacked in Hollywood suffered critical injuries Friday morning after crashing into a pickup truck at a Torrance intersection.
The collision happened at approximately 7:05 a.m. at the intersection of Carson Street and Cabrillo Avenue, according to Torrance Police Lt. C. Farley.
Officers identified the gray Kia sedan after a license plate reader flagged it as the vehicle stolen in a carjacking reported the previous day in Hollywood.
Although officers did not initiate a pursuit, the driver sped away upon detection.
While traveling on Cabrillo Avenue, the suspect collided with a Ford F-350 dual-rear wheel pickup that was crossing on Carson Street.
Officers, who were about a quarter-mile away, witnessed the crash unfold.
Emergency responders transported the suspect to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where medical personnel listed her in critical condition.
Paramedics also transported two passengers from the Ford pickup to nearby hospitals for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Investigators are working to determine whether the suspect ran a red light before the crash occurred.
As part of the investigation, authorities initially closed all southbound lanes of Cabrillo Avenue and westbound lanes of Carson Street.
By 9 a.m., they expanded the closure to include all lanes at the intersection to facilitate a thorough investigation.
