3 Injured After Hot Air Balloon Collides With Power Lines in Napa

NAPA, CA (April 3, 2019) – Three people suffered injuries after a hot air balloon struck nearby power lines at Washington Street and Ragatz Lane Monday morning.

The incident happened around 7:50 a.m. near Highway 29.

The seemingly pleasant hot air balloon ride that turned horribly wrong left three people hurt. Of those hurt, a woman suffered significant burns.

Anton Lang and his wife were on board the hot air balloon that carried 19 passengers and a pilot.

According to Lang’s account, they were soaring over the Vineyards of Napa Valley when their carriage suddenly began closing in on nearby power lines.

Per reports, the hot air balloon struck and dragged for a distance. The collision with the power lines caused burns to one woman.

The pilot, employed by Balloons Above The Valley, did not do enough to keep all of them safe, according to Lang. Aside from the woman, two others suffered injuries when the line arced.

Subsequently, after striking the power lines, the hot air balloon struck treetops before making a hard landing.

In the investigation, Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, stated that the Napa-based company holds two prior incidents in recent years.

As of late Monday, utility crews worked fervently to replace the damaged 30-foot power poles.

Safety should be a concern for all no matter where you are. Take the proper steps and precaution necessary in situations. From amusement park rides to hot air balloon rides, ensuring the safety of others by performing all necessary inspections is crucial.
