16-Year-Old Girl Celebrating Birthday Struck by DUI Driver near Brown Street
MEAD VALLEY, CA (September 22, 2018) – Three people were injured Saturday evening and a horse was killed following a DUI crash on Markham Street. The identities of the victims were not immediately available.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 8:16 PM in the 21000 block of Markham Street, during a birthday celebration. A black BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a 16-year-old girl riding a horse in the area.
The teenage girl and the BMW driver were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Meanwhile, a third person received treatment at the scene but declined hospitalization. Unfortunately, the horse, believed to be pregnant, was fatally wounded in the crash.
Investigators suspect that alcohol played a role in the collision, which remains under investigation. Witnesses also claim that the BMW driver made no attempt to avoid the horse and the rider. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
