Distracted Driving: A Serious Risk to Road Safety
Distracted driving occurs when you take your attention away from the road. Common distractions include texting or talking on the phone, eating or drinking, talking to passengers, or adjusting the radio, entertainment system, or GPS. Any activity that diverts your focus from driving can increase the risk of an accident.
Texting is particularly dangerous, as it takes your eyes off the road for an average of five seconds. In that time, you can travel the length of a football field at highway speeds, making a crash much more likely.
Stay vigilant at intersections and be cautious around emergency vehicles. Safe driving protects lives and reduces the risk of collisions.
