FAA Investigate Plane Crash on 101 Freeway in El Segundo

El Segundo, CA (January 30, 2025) – Two people sustained injuries in a small plane crash on 101 Freeway  near Santa Barbara on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 2:15 p.m. in a field near the northbound 101 Freeway, close to Santa Barbara Municipal Airport. 

Authorities reported that the plane caught fire, spreading to nearby vegetation. They stopped the fire’s forward progress shortly before 3 p.m.

The injured passengers, a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were both taken to Cottage Hospital.

The FAA identified the plane as a Cirrus SR22 and stated that they, along with the NTSB, would investigate the incident.

Authorities noted heavy traffic in the area on Wednesday.

Investigations are ongoing.
