Multi-Car Crash on Interstate 15 Killed Tow Truck Driver and Stranded Motorist

Baker, CA (August 1, 2020) – On Thursday, a tow truck driver and a stranded motorist both died in a multi-car crash on Interstate 15.

The fatal accident happened at around 5:17 AM on July 30 south of Rasor Road.

California Highway Patrol said a 23-year-old man from Apple Valley was driving a 2013 Freightliner. It was pulling two bottom-dump trailers and moves of 55 miles per hour.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed the truck tractor-trailer combination to leave the #2 lane and travel onto the west shoulder of Interstate 15 southbound,” CHP said.

At the same time, a 43-year old 2004 GMC tow truck driver from Barstow was helping a 39-year old male from Cleveland, Ohio, with a flat tire on a 2002 Chevrolet.

CHP said the GMC tow truck and the Chevrolet occupied by a female and two juveniles were disabled on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway.

“Due to the truck driver’s unsafe turning movement, the Freightliner collided with the GMC,” said CHP officials. “Due to the Freightliner colliding with the GMC, the GMC collided into the 43-year old male and 39-year old male, causing them to suffer fatal injuries.”

The GMC continued moving south and crashed with the Chevrolet. Then finally, the Freightliner rested in the dirt center divider partially blocking the #1 lane. The GMC and Chevrolet came to rest in an open area west of Interstate 15.

2 Died, 3 Injured in Multi-Car Crash

San Bernardino County Fire rushed the 41-year old female and two juveniles from Granada Hills to Barstow Community Hospital. On the other hand, the tractor-trailer driver from Apple Valley did not get injured.

Moreover, CHP said alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s-Coroner office will release the identities of the 43-year old male and 39-year old male deceased pending notification of next of kin.

Dealing With Wrongful Death

While the loss of a dear one is irreversible, it is best for your family to know how to move forward.

Subsequently, it is important to recognize that if your family loses a member in an accident, you may still achieve some semblance of justice. To do so, you must file a wrongful death suit.

A wrongful death claim allows family members to obtain vindication for their dearly departed. Also, it is a step towards recovering from tragedy.

“I think the misconception is that when a loved one passes away, the insurance company will automatically admit liability and offer all of the funds available. Insurance companies will try to save money, even if it means not fully compensating for the death of a loved one. When a family retains an attorney immediately, it gives them time to grieve their loss. Meanwhile, their attorney can start focusing on holding the negligent party accountable,” says Tyler Toomey, an attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
