Driver and Passenger Dead in Broadside Crash on Highway 26 in Linden
LINDEN, CA (September 20, 2019) – Two people were killed following a broadside crash Friday morning in Linden, authorities said.
The crash happened around 10:55 a.m. on Highway 26, just east of Archerdale Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 62-year-old woman and passenger were traveling westbound in a silver Honda. Several feet behind them was a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 29-year-old man.
The Honda then veered onto the right shoulder in order to make a U-turn, officers said. As the woman was making the turn, the pickup truck broadsided the Honda.
As a result, both the driver and passenger in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office did not release their names pending next of kin notification.
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Authorities did not rule out drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash.
CHP officers closed the highway in both directions for several hours while they conducted an on-scene investigation.
