Fatal Wrong-Way Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 near Greenfield

GREENFIELD, CA (July 23, 2019) – Two people died late Sunday night in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near Greenfield.

Officials said the crash occurred in the northbound lanes near Hudson Road and the city of Greenfield at about 11:55 p.m.

A 71-year-old Salinas man in a 2002 Honda Odyssey struck a 2015 Nissan Rogue driven by a 38-year-old San Jose woman. An 18-year-old Folsom man in a 2016 Ford Fusion then struck the Honda.

Subsequently, a 24-year-old Apple Valley man driving a 2015 Peterbilt truck hit the Nissan. The Ford and the truck then collided with each other and continued north before coming to a rest.

The drivers of the Honda and Nissan both died. The names of the victims will be released by the Monterey County coroner’s office once their families are notified.

In the meantime, emergency responders took two occupants of the Nissan to the hospital. Their condition was not available as of Monday afternoon.

The CHP said the driver of the Honda was driving the wrong way at the time of the collision. The crash remains under investigation.
