Two Dead in Chatsworth Fatal Car Crash

CHATSWORTH, CA (February 18, 2019)– Two people died and two others were seriously hurt in a crash in Chatsworth on Sunday, February 17.

According to fire department spokesman Larry Redden, the incident happened in the 9500 block of DeSoto Avenue at around 3:33 p.m.

A gray Infiniti was moving southbound on De Soto when it crashed with a white Toyota Avalon, authorities stated. The Avalon was moving northbound on De Soto and was about to make a left turn onto Plummer Street.

Two passengers in the Avalon — a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s — died at the scene. The identities were withheld pending notification of family.

The 13-year-old girl in the back seat of the Avalon sustained major injuries. Fuentes described her condition as very critical at about three hours after the crash.

Meanwhile, the single occupant in the Infiniti had to be removed from the vehicle by first responders. It took 30 to 40 minutes to extricate the man described to be in his 30s.

Witnesses told police one of the drivers appeared to be driving fast, Fuentes said.  No possible causes have been determined or ruled out.

Police are looking for a third car involved in the collision. The vehicle authorities are searching for is described by Detective Lisset Fuentes as a gray sedan. A witness told the police that the vehicle struck one of the other cars in the crash.
