One Car Catches Fire in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on 80 Freeway in Richmond
RICHMOND, CA (September 29, 2019) – Two people were killed and another one was injured following a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Richmond.
The crash happened just before 4:00 a.m. on westbound 80 Freeway at San Pablo Avenue.
Authorities said at least four vehicles were involved. A Honda CRV caught fire as a result of the crash. One occupant in the Honda and another one in the Nissan Altima were killed. Their identities were not immediately available.
Paramedics transported a third patient to Highland Hospital in Oakland with serious injuries, according to the CHP.
The crash forced a nearly four-hour closure of all lanes of westbound 80 Freeway from the San Pablo Avenue off-ramp. All lanes were reopened around 8:00 a.m.
CHP officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
