Two Men Injured after Rollover Accident with Replica Cobra Kit-Car at 300 Vista Del Mar
EL SEGUNDO, CA (May 22, 2018) – Two men were injured in a single-car crash on Vista Del Mar involving a replica Shelby Cobra kit-car, early Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred at the 300 block of Vista Del Mar at around 5:45 PM. According to police, the car with two occupants was attempting to negotiate a curve when it lost control and rolled several times, before crashing into the fence of a Chevron refinery.
The driver was identified as a 75-year-old man of Hermosa Beach man, and his passenger was identified as a 27-year-old man of Hawthorne. Both occupants were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. The driver suffered critical injuries, and the passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries. Their identities were not immediately released.
El Segundo Police closed down Vista Del Mar between Grand Avenue and 45th Street, for about 18 hours due to a large debris field, with some parts intermittently reopened. The roadway was shut off to traffic for most of Wednesday morning and was not fully passable until just after noon.
Authorities did not immediately reveal the exact cause of the incident, as they continue to investigate the events leading up to the rollover accident.
